Memories of a wonderful Christmas time

Posted

We wrote a couple of our columns in advance because of the holidays, so here is a recap of the highlights and challenges experienced over the last two weeks.

The week leading up to Christmas and the week leading up to New Year's Day are often whirlwinds with so many activities crammed into such a short amount of time.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is having a good 2022 so far, and that things get even better.

Tallulah, do you have any holiday highlights you want to mention?

Lu: Oh yes! So many! Where do I even start? First, the best thing is that my human big brother Sam got to stay with us for a week, and then we got to go down to his mom's house to enjoy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It was great to see my sister, Nova, my mama Christi and my nana, Joan.

Jeff: It was a wonderful Christmas, that's for sure. But the day seemed to pass way too quickly.

Lu: Yeah, except for the car ride on Christmas Eve and the trip back home. That seemed to take forever.

Jeff: It did - especially the drive down to Three Rivers (halfway between San Antonio and Corpus Christi). We took Highway 281 down there to try to avoid some of the Christmas Eve traffic.

Lu: We got lost in Blanco.

Jeff: Well, not exactly lost. I was looking for a rest and relief stop for you and we meandered past Blanco State Park.

Lu: And then we didn't get to eat at Sonic.

Jeff: Anytime it takes more than seven minutes just to make an order at a fast food place, it's time to move on.

Lu: That's OK. We did get McDonald's later. But I think I annoyed Sam on the drive.

Jeff: I understand you don't really care for car rides. He was trying to take a nap and you kept wanting to be petted.

Lu: He didn't like all my doggy slobber either.

Jeff: Just like with anyone or anything else, we take the bad with the good. You were much better behaved on the drive home.

Lu: Or maybe you were more relaxed.

Jeff: That's definitely true, too.

Lu: It was really fun to spend time with our family down south.

Jeff: It was great. It's just too bad it takes so long to get there. I wish we could go more often.

Lu: I like it once we get there, but like you said, car rides aren't my favorite.

Jeff: What was your favorite part?

Lu: The snacks! Getting to see and spend time with everyone. The walks. And of course, stealing Nova's bone when I had a chance.

Jeff: She definitely noticed that!

Lu: Yeah, but she didn't mind too much.

Jeff: She got revenge by eating food out of your bowl.

Lu: But that was just dog food. The food of last resort. I like the ham, the bread and the egg you shared with me. It was much better.

Jeff: I spoil you too much.

Lu: No you don't! Don't think that, Daddy. You spoil me just right.

Jeff: I don't know about that, but it is great to have you around, Lu.

Lu: Thanks, Daddy! It's great to have you, too. Can we go for a walk now?

Jeff: You mean it's not nap time.

Lu: No!

Jeff: OK. We've been doing better. Sometimes more than one walk in the same day.

Lu: If only that nasty cold weather will stay away. I hate when it gets so cold we can't walk.

Jeff: That's a story for another time, Lu.

Lu: OK. Goodbye everybody.

Jeff & Lu: And Happy 2022!
