TWENTY YEARS AGO (2003)

Jonesboro Eagle football player Matt Massingill was recovering after collapsing on the sidelines of their regional playoff game with Calvert. He had been transported by helicopter to Scott & White.

The Food for Families Drive netted more than 140,000 pounds for the Gatesville Care Center.

The Gatesville High School Theatre Department and the Gatesville Civic Theatre Association wrapped up their last performance of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”

The Gatesville Exchange Club’s Students of the month were Adelina Valenzuela and Brian Worthington.

Michaela Marisa Moreno, the then 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Moreno, of Gatesville, was selected to participate in the “Distinguished Youth of Texas Scholarship and Recognition Program” held in Austin.

THIRTY YEARS AGO (1993)

Se’Vette Tatum graduated from Sam Houston State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a minor in English.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Bruce W. Kaase, son of Ute Kaase, of Gatesville, was assigned to Operation Restore Hope in Somalia.

Members of Gatesville’s Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 74 presented a check donation to the Gatesville Senior Center.

Laura Denise Featherson graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology.

Norma M. Elmore, of Gatesville, was named to the Dean’s List at Temple Junior College.

FORTY YEARS AGO

The McKown Bridge Co. of Round Rock was building a $397,620 bridge across the Leon River near the Ater community.

Leaird’s Department Store advertised men’s Members Only jackets.

Cub Scout Pack 272 held its annual pack pinewood derby at the Scout House in Raby Park.

New guidelines for the issuance of building permits in Gatesville were in the process of being formulated.

FIFTY YEARS AGO

A hearing was scheduled in the 52nd District Court in Gatesville on an application for a temporary injunction against the Jonesboro school district’s assessing and collecting taxes.

The Gatesville Chamber of Commerce and the Gatesville Jaycees gave the Gatesville State School for Boys $600 in gift certificates to distribute to boys who would otherwise have received no Christmas gifts.

“Joe Kidd,” starring Clint Eastwood, was playing at the Town and Country Drive-In.

Powell Supply Company advertised Goodyear tires for as low as $17.50.

Donna McCoury, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bridges, of Gatesville, received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Howard Payne College.
