The Turnersville 67th annual homecoming program will be held on Sunday, May 26, at the Turnersville Tabernacle. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Be sure to arrive early for fellowship and to enjoy coffee and donuts.

The Homecoming Memorial Program will commence at 11 a.m., and the guest speaker will be Matt Dossey.

Dossey is the son of Willis Dossey Sr. and Mildred Dossey. His wife is Emily Dossey, and they have two children, Braxton and Braydon.

He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1992 and later attended McMurry University where he graduated in 1996. He received his master’s degree from Tarleton State University in 2006.

He has been in the education field for over 27 years and is currently in his 13th year as the superintendent of Jonesboro Independent School District.

He has been a licensed minister since 2003 and has served as the pastor at Jonesboro Baptist Church since 2011.

One of the most treasured traditions is to honor veterans who have proudly served our country. To instill patriotism, at the beginning of the service, the children will be asked to follow local veterans posting flags down an aisle which will lead to the pledge of allegiance. Children who are too young to walk will be carried by proud parents.

The Turnersville Cemetery was formed in the early 1900’s. It is honored to be the resting place for veteran’s graves. Around 275 veterans from at least six wars have been inventoried and decorated with the American flag during each Memorial weekend by members of the community.

The two oldest graves in the cemetery include Harrsion Owens who served during the Texas Revolution and John Black, who served during the Civil War.

The program will be followed by the traditional meal, which will be served in the community center. Dinnerware, bread, drinks, and water will be provided. Those attending are encouraged to bring a favorite dish or two, and to stay after the program to enjoy the variety of foods while renewing friendships.

Turnersville Baptist Church is located at 8120 FM 182 in Turnersville.
