Nancy Dixon, age 69, of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, in Mound on “Hopson Hill,” surrounded by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023, at White Mound Baptist Church Tabernacle, with Rev. Bruce Cox and Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery.
Nancy Lois Hopson Dixon was born on November 28,1953, in Gatesville, to the late Truett and Lois Cole Hopson. She attended grade school at Mound and Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1972. She married Kenneth Dixon on August 4, 1973. As a young girl, Nancy accepted Christ as her savior.
Nancy earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Communications in 2010 from Texas A&M-Central Texas. After taking care of her dad, she decided that she loved caring for others. She got her CNA and CMA certifications and thoroughly enjoyed her patients at Coryell Memorial Hospital Welcome Program. It was very important to her that the residents had a special Sunday meal. Nancy made sure their tablecloths were ironed, napkins coordinated and that the salt and pepper shakers matched each week. After her mother passed, she took care of her baby sister, Barbara Sue “Fudge.” Together, they started baking and preparing meals. Her love for all things of the heart and home soon turned into a business, “Marmi’s MudPie Kitchen.” She set up shop and worked at Bakers Market in Gatesville, where she quickly became famous in her hometown for her protein balls.
Nancy made every occasion special, whether she was decorating a table, baking a pound cake, or taking the grandkids to Chick-Fil-A. Her attention to detail was impeccable and she truly put the “extra” in extraordinary! She was always on the go, never missed an event, and made everyone feel special and loved. To know her was to love her. Throughout her life, she shared her love of Christ by serving others. She truly had a servant's heart and put others before herself. Nancy was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer in July of 2022. We rejoice in knowing that because of her faith, she is now fully healed. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8
Nancy is survived by her husband, Kenneth Dixon; children, Sara Jo Poynter and husband, Chad, Kari Ellen Belt and husband, Brandon, Holly Ann Pullen and husband, Kyle, Jeb Caley Dixon and wife, Desiree; twelve grandchildren, who called her by her favorite name “Marmi,” Jaryn Cole and Lyndi Nicole Poynter, Samuel Truett, Charles Robert and Thomas Allen Belt, Joshua Lane McBee, Ruby Caroline, Truett Rose, and Jacklyn Pearl Pullen, Julia Kay, Brooke Natalie, and Reese Kelly Dixon; her “favorite” brothers and sisters, Margaret Jo Hopson, David Hopson and wife, Pam, Frank Hopson and wife, Susie, Loyd Hopson and wife, Kari, Barbara Sue Hopson; and numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly called her “Aunt Marmi.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the children’s camp fund at White Mound Baptist Church, P.O. Box 103, Mound, TX 76558.
