Matthews seeks re-election for county commissioner

Kyle Matthews has authorized The Gatesville Messenger to announce his candidacy for re-election for the office of Coryell County Commissioner, Precinct 1, in the upcoming Primary election to be held on March 5, 2024. Matthews released the following statement:

Representing Conservative values, I have been married to my wife, Julie, for 28 years and raised our two children in Gatesville. As your commissioner, being fiscally responsible and only supporting budgetary items to provide security, safety, and services to taxpayers has been my number one priority. I am honored to sit on the executive board of the Central Texas Council of Government and work with the water supply corporations and districts in rural parts of the county to secure aid for backup power sources.  Annually, I help promote and facilitate the Senior Expo and have assisted several county school districts in security planning, drills, and safety to keep children safe. I have created and maintained the cost records for each of the county buildings and secured out-of-county beds to assist with jail overcrowding to regain compliance with the state jail commission. Securing competitive salaries for law enforcement has been one of my ongoing goals. Working with a planning committee, architect, and engineers to demo four of the county’s oldest and least efficient buildings, and working with the architect and engineers to get the jail expansion approved with the jail commission has been one of the biggest challenges, but I have and will continue to work for what is best for taxpayers. I have worked with the treasurer, auditor, and court to eliminate wasteful spending, and with the Department of Public Safety to secure a Sergeant and 10 troopers at little cost to taxpayers. Operating with the Road and Bridge department on creating a division to review, analyze, and plan, before developers create new subdivisions is something I helped initiate to help ensure taxpayers are not held responsible for charges the developers should be paying such as roads, septic, water, fire, and police coverage. I am an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and member of Texas Farm Bureau, Legacy Outfitters, the Coryell County Youth Fair, and Exchange Club. I am a staunch conservative Republican and would be honored to have your vote.
