During the March 25 meeting of the GISD Board of Trustees, two educators were singled out for their extraordinary skills.
Michael Kunkel and Earnest Hamil have been teaching partners at Gatesville Intermediate for several years now in the life skills classrooms. They are reliable employees who are a source of great stability for our students and the intermediate campus. LeighAnn Goodwin stated, "They do an outstanding job of working with some of our most at-risk and high-needs students. They go above and beyond to meet the unique needs of their students. Their job is not easy, yet they do it willingly. Their care for students is evident in everything they do. Both the district and the students are lucky to have them."
Bridget Register explained, "Mr. Kunkel and Mr. Hamil both have such a dedicated heart for their students. They offer hands-on activities and incorporate positive behavior strategies to help students be successful. Not only do they know their students' strengths and weaknesses, but they focus on the students' interests to prepare them for their future. It is amazing to see the growth of their students in maturity and confidence and as learners from 4th grade to 6th grade. Please help us honor Michael Kunkel and Earnest Hamil.
