Jonesboro Eagles power through regional competition

Jonesboro Independent School District’s powerlifting team recently competed in a regional meet this past week, with lifter DeMarcus Acoff advancing to state.

Senior DeMarcus Acoff competed in the 198-weight class and came out on top with first place. He lifted 515 pounds on squat, 355 pounds on the bench press, and 485 pounds on deadlift, with a total of 1,355 pounds.

Senior Payton Brister competed in the 220-weight class and won sixth place in his division. He lifted 375 pounds on squat, 315 pounds on the bench press, and 510 pounds on deadlift, with a total of 1,200 pounds.

Junior Austin Massingill competed in the 198-weight class and won eighth place in his division. He lifted 415 pounds on squat, 315 pounds on the bench press, and 450 pounds on deadlift, with a total of 1,180 pounds.

Coach Eddie Gallegos will lead Acoff to the state meet, which will be held in Abilene on Saturday, March 23.
