Gatesville’s H-E-B was one of three local companies recognized by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) at the 26th annual Texas Workforce Conference in Houston from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

H-E-B Gatesville was presented with the HireAbility Employer of the Year award, which honors the store’s efforts to create an inclusive work environment by providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

“At H-E-Bs across Texas, we strongly believe in creating an inclusive and supportive work environment, where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential,” Gatesville H-E-B Top Store Leader Diego Zamora said in an email. “Here, locally, we work closely with our Texas Workforce Commission to connect folks with great talent to jobs with great opportunities.”

The award was presented to H-E-B Gatesville in partnership with Workforce Solutions of Central Texas.   According to a TWC press release, H-E-B Gatesville, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas, and TWC Vocational Rehabilitation Service collaborated with Gatesville ISD to provide work experience for special education students by serving as a worksite as well as offering mentors and coaches for individuals with disabilities.

“This award is a testament to H-E-B's values and demonstrates how we strive to ensure that each and every person counts,” Zamora said.

The theme for the 2023 Texas Workforce Conference was “many paths, one mission,” which recognized employers across the state for their innovation, hard work, and investment into the Texas workforce system. Other Central Texas businesses were honored with awards at the conference, including Akima Support Operations and Baylor Scott & White Temple.

“On behalf of the Store Leadership Team from the local Gatesville H-E-B, we would like to thank the Workforce Solutions of Central Texas for considering us for this award,” Zamora said. “Additionally, we want to express our deepest gratitude to our amazing partners, locally and corporately, who make H-E-B such a special place to work. Without their passion and dedication, none of this would be possible.  We are truly honored.”
