GHS art students "strut their stuff" on the fashion runway

Gatesville High School art teacher, Claude Williams, recently had his students participate in a fashion show called ‘Project Runway – Art in Motion’ where the students integrated the seven elements of art into garment design, choreography, and digital presentations.

“The students created the garments, and we selected models from outside the art class to model their clothing. The students also came up with their own brand name for the clothing, which is CABO.  CABO stands for C-onfident, A-rrogant, B-old, & O-riginal,” Williams said.

He reported that there was a total of eight models, four girls, and four boys. Williams said that each student had five outfits to model.

Williams continued, “It is more than just a fashion show. Each class is also responsible for showcasing one of the seven elements of art. They have to be informative to the point where the audience gathers a clear understanding of that element and how it pertains to art. It also must involve the collaboration of their entire class. These classes have come up with some very unique ways to present their element - this is anything from dancing to videos. Having each class present an element is also my way of assessing their understanding of the elements of art.”
