Duayne Smith, age 89, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, in Temple.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Donald Fleming officiating. Interment, with full military honors, followed at Pearl Cemetery.
Oscar Duayne Smith was born on June 7, 1934, to the late Albert Oscar and Anna Murrah Smith in Pearl, Texas. He graduated from Pearl High School in 1953. Soon after graduation, he entered the United States Air Force in 1953. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam and retired in 1973, with 20 years of service. He married Patricia Shaw on Dec. 17, 1958. After his retirement, they resided in San Antonio, where he was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. His wife preceded him in death in 2013 and Duayne moved to Gatesville in 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Smith; sisters, Carolyn Brooks, Cynthia Neatherlin; brothers, Gervase Smith and Bryan Smith.
Oscar is survived by his children, Danny Smith, Donald Smith, Michael Smith, and Laura Smith; sister, Gwen Fleming; brothers, F.B. Smith and wife, JaQue, James Smith and wife, Lynn.
