Billie Shawn Thomas Oct. 24, 1957 – Aug. 29, 2023

Posted

Billie Shawn Thomas, of Gatesville, peacefully completed her journey home on Aug. 29, 2023, at the age of 65.

Respecting Shawn’s wishes, a visitation among family and friends will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3, at Scott’s Funeral Home.  Private interment services at Hemmeline Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Shawn was born on Oct. 24, 1957, in Gatesville, to the late Billie and Doris White Thomas.  She grew up with her siblings on the family dairy farm, enjoying the country life.  She was a happy, fearless child, always the first one to jump in the ole swimming hole on a hot summer day, snakes, and all.  She attended school in Gatesville with her many friends. Shawn enjoyed going to the First Baptist Church with her grandmother and was baptized there at the age of nine.  She played drums in the high school band, graduating with the fun loving, loyal GHS class of 1976.

After high school, Shawn began her banking career in Gatesville.  She truly enjoyed her work, making lifetime friends along the way.  Advancing to the role of Accounting Officer, she retired from the National Bank of Gatesville in 2004, due to health issues.

Shawn was a beautiful, compassionate person who lovingly cared for her elderly parents and was a second Mom to many of her nieces and nephews.  She enjoyed the last few years living with and being cared for by family members in Stephenville, Texas.

Shawn was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Cindy, Ricky, and Jackie Thomas.

Shawn is survived and will be greatly missed by her sister, Robbie Lam, and husband Gene; brother, Jody Thomas, and wife Robin; sister-in-law, Sandra Thomas; uncle, Joe White, and wife Joann; aunt, Doretha Thomas McCallister; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Shawn cherished her family and friends and wanted us to remember to enjoy our lives, but to also take care of our health.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Shawn’s family wishes to thank the staff at Texas Health Southwest Ft. Worth, Hillside Medical Lodge, Bluebonnet Hospice Care, Coryell Health, and her many friends who provided comfort and love during her final days.  You have been appreciated beyond what words can express.
