Eagles host baseball tournament

Jonesboro High School’s Eagles hosted a baseball  tournament March 4-5, winning two out of three games.

The Eagles played the McGregor junior varsity Bulldogs on March 4 and were defeated 3-2. Later that day, the Eagles defeated the Johnson County Sports Association Lions, 10-0. The Eagles beat the Blum Bobcats 5-1 on Saturday.

“We played hard, lost a tough one to McGregor JV, but battled the whole game,” Pierce said. “We continued to put the ball in play, and we ran the bases well. Fielding has improved, and we had a few guys get up on the mound and give us some good innings, which is what we struggled with against Gorman.”

The Eagles will play the Chilton Pirates at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, at the Jonesboro High School field.

In earlier action, the Eagles fell to Gorman, 15-6, on March 1 in a home contest.

For Jonesboro, Jaden Domel was 1-for-1 with a single, one run scored, a walk, and a stolen base. Nathan Forrest was 1-for-1 with a single. Garrett Young went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two runs driven in, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Caleb Tyler was 1-for-2 with a single, while Tyler Wilson was 1-for-3 with a single and one RBI.

Cade Robertson walked and scored a run, and had two stolen bases, while Carter Janisch was 0-for-2 with a walk, and scored a run.

Ian Shoaf reached base twice when hit by a pitch, and scored a run and notched one stolen base.

“Overall, we put the ball in play well, just right at people,” JHS coach Brandon Pierce said. “We ran the bases well tonight. The main thing that got us tonight is that we didn’t consistently throw strikes on the mound, and gave up too many walks.”
