Higher ground (Posted on Friday, October 23, 2009)

Higher ground
Reports of 4-6 inches of rain Wednesday night and Thursday morning caused the Leon River and most creeks to flow out of their banks, causing widespread flooding across Coryell County. Here, cattle seek higher ground along Coryell Creek on East Hwy. 84. Evant schools opened two hours late and on the other side of the county, FM 1829 was closed at Mound and Highway 2326 was closed at Mother Neff State Park. Faunt Le Roy Park and Brown Park were closed to traffic in Gatesville. City, county and state highway crews were out the entire night placing barricades wherever conditions warranted.
