A NEW BEGINNING

A new era has begun for the Gatesville High School band with the addition of a whole new staff. Jose Sanchez was hired Monday as the new head band director, and Michael Oreka will assist with the percussion section.

Pause to remember

A large crowd showed up Tuesday on the Coryell County Courthouse lawn to remember Makai Brooks Lamar on what would have been his third birthday. Following a prayer by the Rev. Wray Nunn, pastor of Grace Assembly Church, the group sang “Happy Birthday.” The brief ceremony climaxed with the release of hundreds of balloons.

Hornets enter last chance qualifier

With the five-week league season and six state qualifying tournaments already in the books, time is running out on the hopes of a state qualification for the Gatesville Hornets 7-on-7 football team. Head coach Kyle Cooper’s squad has already been to one more state qualifying tournament than he originally planned, having seen their hopes to qualify for state dashed most recently at Wimberley.
